Handbook

Simple creative writing exercises for solving everyday challenges.

About the project

The constant changes in today's world strongly influence the rise of mental health issues, especially among youth, who are simultaneously going through significant life changes and are more prone to developing various disorders. For easier coping with crises, creativity and adaptability are necessary, and the basis for both is good mental health. It has been proven that art, including creative writing, contributes to improved well-being as well as to creativity, empathy, and effective learning.

Ideas on how to use creative writing for therapeutic and creative processes already exist, but exercises are not yet collected in a way that is easy and fun to use. In this project, we aim to (1) find good exercises from creative writing and (2) gather them in one place – in an attractive manual.

Primarily, we will equip youth workers with excellent tools and consequently contribute to better mental health, greater self-connection, creativity, and empathy among young people.

The project also directly helps in the development of functional literacy, where Slovenia is below the OECD average.
